Another earthquake jolted the island of Mindanao 9:40pm Thursday (Feb. 6) with a magnitude of 6.1 and a depth of .001 km.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake, which was tectonic in origin, had its epicenter 124 km southeast of the municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.
There were no reported damages but the quake was felt at intensity IV in Malungon in the province of Sarangani. Other towns and cities in the neighboring provinces of Davao Del Sur, South Cotabato, and Cotobato also felt the earthquake at varying lower intensities. This is the 5th earthquake with a magnitude greater than 6, to strike south-central part of Mindanao within the last five months and it comes less than two months after the 6.9 Magnitude earthquake that hit Davao Del Sur last December 15.
