Ramped-Up Efforts: Nueva Vizcaya Bolsters Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) of Nueva Vizcaya, under the leadership of Gov. Jose Gambito, is ramping up efforts to enforce Republic Act No. 10586, known as the “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.” Collaborating with partner national government agencies such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Highway Patrol Groups, the PDRRMC aims to address the increasing number of vehicular accidents attributed to drunk driving in the province. Gov. Gambito emphasizes the importance of aggressive enforcement to protect Novo Vizcayanos, particularly the youth, and advises law enforcers to be vigilant, especially during nighttime hours.

The initiative follows reports from the previous year indicating 1,775 vehicular accidents that necessitated proper response and assistance from the PDRRM office in collaboration with municipal DRRM offices and volunteer civic organizations. As part of the strategy, the PDRRMC plans to procure alcoholic breath analyzers for use by law enforcement personnel and medical workers in public hospitals, enhancing the implementation of the anti-drunk driving law.

These intensified enforcement measures are timely as the province prepares for the upcoming Holy Week observance, anticipating a significant influx of commuters. Gambito underscores the need for heightened awareness and cooperation among Novo Vizcayanos, urging adherence to responsible driving practices and emphasizing the mantra, “If you drink, don’t drive. If you drive, don’t drink.” This collective effort aims to ensure road safety and minimize the risks associated with drunk driving for the welfare and protection of all road users.
