In Manila, the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute’s Research and Creative Works (RCW) division is redefining science communication with a creative flair. The team aims to bridge the gap between science and the public, mainly targeting children and teens, through imaginative campaigns and initiatives. One of their flagship projects, “Panahon Na!” features stories and content designed to simplify climate change and weather concepts, with elements like the comic strip series “Si K! Ang kaibigan ko,” adding a playful touch to learning.
Led by Glecy Atienza, with a background in theater and performing arts, brings a unique perspective to the team, emphasizing the integration of arts and communication with science. Collaborating with writers like Arman Mangilinan, the team delves into topics ranging from disaster preparedness to climate action, drawing inspiration from their experiences and community engagements. Their approach combines creativity and community involvement, ensuring their messages resonate effectively and drive positive social action. As they gear up for upcoming projects and collaborations, including ventures with the TVUP television network and innovative events like an earthquake drill with a twist, the RCW division seeks to expand its reach, enhance engagement, and further empower communities towards resilience and sustainable practices.
