Negros Occidental’s Victorias City celebrates the inauguration of its PHP55-million Victorias City Command and Evacuation Center (VCCEC), marking a significant milestone in disaster preparedness and response.
The unveiling ceremony, attended by DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, highlighted the center’s role in protecting residents during calamities. Funded through the Department of Budget and Management’s Local Government Support Fund, the VCCEC stands as a symbol of the city’s commitment to mitigating disaster impacts and ensuring community safety. The center is poised to become a model evacuation facility, equipped with advanced features like a disaster operations center, telephone communication system, surveillance technology, and IoT equipment.
Mayor Benitez expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that made the VCCEC a reality, emphasizing its importance in community resilience. The center’s swift construction within six months underscores the city’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness, stressing the need for early warning systems and informed analyses to minimize risks and economic losses.
