Rain-Induced Lahar Risk Prompts Action in Canlaon City

Canlaon City, Negros Oriental—The local government has intensified monitoring of its communities following heavy rainfall on Monday, which has raised concerns about a possible lahar flow from Mt. Kanlaon.

In a proactive response, the city government has prepared trucks, logistics, and emergency staff to ensure swift action should the need arise. The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) is also stepping up efforts by conducting a two-day training for additional camp managers at evacuation centers, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Currently, 1,398 families, comprising 4,497 individuals, are sheltered in evacuation centers. Authorities remain vigilant and committed to providing support and ensuring the safety of all residents.
