The WMO’s State of the Global Climate 2024 report reveals alarming trends:
•Record Heat: 2024 saw global temperatures 1.54°C above pre-industrial levels, making 2015-2024 the hottest decade.
•Rising CO₂: Carbon dioxide levels hit an 800,000-year high due to fossil fuel use and El Niño.
•Sea-Level Rise: Since 1993, sea levels have more than doubled their rise to 4.7 mm per year, with oceans absorbing 90% of excess heat.
•Extreme Weather: Over 150 disasters in 2024—heatwaves, floods, and storms—displaced 800,000+ people.
These findings underscore the urgent need for global leaders to adopt renewable energy sources and enhance climate adaptation measures to mitigate future risks.
