The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has developed “Plan Exodus,” an evacuation strategy to safeguard residents living within the 10-kilometer radius danger zone around Kanlaon Volcano.
While the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has not raised Kanlaon’s alert level, proactive measures are being implemented to ensure public safety. Approximately 124,000 residents in the danger zone could be affected by a potential eruption.
The evacuation and relief efforts are estimated to cost P104.6 million. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been briefed on the situation and the necessary budget for these initiatives.
Phivolcs continues to monitor Kanlaon Volcano for any signs of increased activity closely, ensuring timely action to protect the affected communities.
