PHIVOLCS has kept Kanlaon Volcano at Alert Level 3, warning of possible sudden hazardous eruptions. Over the past 24 hours, 43 volcanic earthquakes and continued inflation on the eastern slopes were recorded, indicating rising magma. Sulfur dioxide emissions remain high at 5,763 tonnes per day, suggesting ongoing volcanic activity.
A minor eruption on February 6 caused ashfall and mudflows in Negros Occidental, highlighting the volcano’s volatility.
Residents are advised to avoid the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone and prepare for possible evacuations. Heavy rains could trigger lahars, and pilots are warned to steer clear of the summit due to potential ash hazards. PHIVOLCS continues to monitor the situation closely
